What is a Spiritual Warrior?

One who embodies PEACE

In my latest Sunday Peace Talk, I spoke about the need to conjure one’s inner Spiritual Warrior to be able to let go of judgement. What is the Spiritual Warrior?

We are the mystics who courageously shine our light in the darkness. We stand tall in our truth and purify our minds with unconditional love. It takes a warrior spirit to vanquish the inner oppressor from our minds.

Spiritual Warrior is the embodiment of courageous peace and love. It stills the waters of our minds. I call forth its presence within me when I’m feeling not-so peaceful inside.

Toltec wisdom shared by don Miguel Ruiz comes to mind. As does the Tibetan Buddhist teachings of Pema Chödrön. There are many teachers in these traditions and others who I’ve drawn strength from to help guide me to understanding what it means to be a Spiritual Warrior.

I’ve been called to hold the space for this energy in my life and the lives of others. Spiritual warriorship awakens us to open our hearts even more, especially when we feel like closing down. It helps us get through the darkest hours.

Wisdom teachings are about going deeper into the awareness of the spirit. They take us deeper inward to remind us that all true spiritual paths lead into one, the path of Oneness.

This isn’t necessarily religious warrior-ship. A Spiritual Warrior does not kill another in vengeance or martyrdom. A Religious Warrior might, and justify that killing in the name of their religious righteousness.

Not all religious warriors condone violence. Some do. A true spiritual warrior never does.

Religiosity usually carries dogma. Spirituality carries faith in the healing power of love without condition. True spirituality seeks truth over lies. Religion might lie to control people, and has for thousands of years.

Religion is being used to manipulate people into war. Spirituality, without dogma, is only about the pure connection with the Oneness and Unity of all of us. It is about understanding that we are so much more than our limited human ego’s understanding of ourselves.

It is about peace, not through war, but through the heart. Through risking disagreement and finding ways to coexist without war.

The Spiritual Warrior is an archetype of the divine feminine. This energy is within us all, every man and woman. The Christ teachings are about this very thing. He represents the embodiment of Divine Love in Action.

His teachings were manipulated and twisted to exalt a corrupt Church-State. These forces promote a vengeful god. From my understanding, Christ taught that God is Love, that the vengeful god, the punisher, was put in place to manipulate and control the masses.

Jesus called out the corrupt and promoted truth over lies. His energy reminds us that love is the antidote to fear, that fear is an illusion. He reminds us that fear is the tool of the oppressors. He called out the persecution of anyone and everyone. He reminded us to love one another. And he reminded us that we are all One.

He did not condone hatred, even against our enemies. That is what a Spiritual Warrior does.

The Spiritual Warrior is also Quan Yin, the goddess of compassion who does not turn away from suffering. She loves unconditionally. She does not cast out anyone. She reminds us that compassion is a sacred act, and not always easy.

It takes a warrior spirit to face the suffering within one’s self and hold that space for others with neutrality. It takes a warrior spirit to choose to love everyone unconditionally.

The Spiritual Warrior is also the energy of the warrior goddess. She is misunderstood. The misunderstanding is that a warrior goddess condones war. No, she stands for PEACE, LOVE, and connection. She loves all. She is within us all. She guides us through battles back to mindfulness.

By working to undo internalized oppression, we embody the Spiritual Warrior.

Because we have been oppressed, our minds hijacked by a sick society, we must undo the abuse by noticing when we are abusing ourselves. Anywhere there is hate of another, we can use the Spiritual Warrior energy to help us transform it into forgiveness.

The work of the spiritual warrior is done within one’s self. It takes courage to refine the inner landscape of the self, clearing internalized oppression. We work to transform our emotional realm, from relating only as a limited being who is a victim to the world’s opinion of us, to surrendering to the infinite awareness of our soul.

The Spiritual Warrior is Mary Magdalene, who was said to be a whore, but who actually is the archetype of Divine Feminine Love. She is the Christos energy in woman form. She stands strong in her power. She meets us where we are, and honors us as sacred.

She is the spouse and messenger of divine wisdom. She is brave, fierce in her determination to remind of the Divine Feminine, and holds the power of peace for everyone. She helps us remember that everything is sacred which helps our lives resonate at a higher frequency.

The inner Spiritual Warrior tends to the realm of thoughts and feelings. It holds space for the feelings of vengeance, while helping us not lash out, and practice compassion while speaking our truth.

As Spiritual Warriors, we need not fight against anything but fight FOR love, kindness, respect, and true justice. We can create the new, while naming what is unjust and wrong. We can vanquish the inner enemy by doing this. Every time we notice it, we simply say ‘no’ and redirect our attention to our sacred heart of compassion.

True justice is never war. It is only harmony, balance, and respect for everyone’s needs. The Spiritual Warrior remembers to honor her needs and give herself what she needs to she can show up in her higher self awareness.

We create freedom by stopping the wars we carry on inside our minds and in our relationships. As we make our own relationships more peaceful, it creates peace for everyone we touch which amplifies the energy of peace in the world.
